Type 173
The Bristol Type 173 was a tandem-rotor helicopter, capable of carrying 13 passengers. It was evaluated by the Royal Navy for carrier-borne operations, and by British European Airways. No orders were placed, so the helicopter never got beyond the prototype stage.
Mk.1 - two 550 hp Alvis Leonides engines, V-style tailplane. First flight January 3
1952.
Mk.2 - as Mk.1 but with stub wings front and back, with endplates on back wings.
Mk.3 - as Mk.1 with two 850hp Alvis Leonides Major engines.
